BBC docu over hoe Khomeiny aan de macht kwam. Eerste deel heb ik net bekeken en ik vond het interessant genoeg om binnenkort de rest te gaan bekijken. Dus die plaats ik binnenkort. Ondanks dat het de politiek correcte BBC is, maken die toch wel met enige regelmaat goede docu's en vele van de hoofdrolspelers komen aan het woord. Er zijn maar weinig omroepen die dat voor elkaar krijgen. Als u een keertje Kuch en Bitterman overslaat of die andere goedbetaalde en doorgedraaide clown, dan heeft u al tijd genoeg...

Iran has plutonium for 24 Nagasaki-type bombs

The secret, one-on-one nuclear negotiations President Barack Obama launched with Iran have run into a blank wall. A senior Iranian team member, Mostafa Dolatyar, said Friday, Dec. 14 in New Delhi that the diplomatic process for solving the nuclear issue with Iran was in effect going nowhere, because the demand that Tehran halt its 20-percent enrichment of uranium “doesn’t make sense.”
He went on to say: “They [the world powers] have made certain connections with purely technical issues and something purely political. In so far as this is the mentality and this is the approach from 5 + 1 (the Six World Powers) - or whatever else you call it - definitely there is no end for this game.”

The diplomacy-cum-sanctions policy pursued by the West to force Iran to abandon enrichment and shut down its underground facility in Fordo has become irrelevant.  So, too, have the red lines Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu drew so graphically before the UN Assembly on September 27.
What Mostafa Dolatyar was saying in effect is that Iran has outplayed its adversaries up to the game’s finishing line.

Wapenstilstand, de gevolgen

Dat ik er op tegen ben is duidelijk als u de voorgaande artikelen gelezen heeft. Ik zei al dat het 11-1 voor Hamas stond in mijn vorige stukje, dat ik schreef vóór de wapenstilstand.

We tellen door:

Met de aanslag op een bus in het hart van Israël, Tel-Aviv, is het meer dan 12-1. En dat is geen goed vertrekpunt voor een wapenstilstand. Om in voetbaltermen te spreken; de rust ingaan met een achterstand is niet lekker. En reken maar dat Hamas het beschouwt als rust. Het islamitische Hudna is niet hetzelfde als het westerse begrip wapenstilstand en dat geldt ook niet voor 'Vrede'. Het lijkt erop dat Israël 'gebukt' heeft, hetzij onder druk van de VS, of uit angst voor een oorlog met Egypte. Want het kan niet volhouden dat het doel, uitschakeling van Hamas, bereikt is.

Hamas is een aanvaardbare gesprekspartner geworden. Na de vliegtuigladingen ministers en andere notabelen uit islamitische landen, het leek wel een bedevaart naar Mekka (30 ministers las ik ergens), heeft Israël semi-direct met Hamas onderhandeld. Het lijkt alsof de doctrine dat er niet met terroristen gepraat wordt opgegeven is. Hamas lijkt gelegitimeerd te zijn zoals ik in mijn vorige stukje schreef. Erdogan zei: "Ik ga naar Gaza wanneer ik wil."

Qua aantallen doden en materiële schade heeft Hamas verloren, maar dat is niet hoe de islam een overwinning afmeet. Mensen zijn vervangbaar, de bevolking van Gaza vermenigvuldigt zich sneller dan ooit. Gebouwen worden met hulp van het Westen wel weer opgebouwd, het geld stroomt alweer binnen; Nederland 3 miljoen, Duitsland 1,5 en er zal nog veel volgen onder het mom van hulp en zielig. De palestijnse gebieden zijn de grootste ontvanger van VN hulp.

De media zijn van mening dat Hamas als overwinnaar uit het conclict gekomen is. En dat is zeer ernstig, maar met mijn 16-1 ben ik ook die mening toegedaan. De NOS brengt het als nieuws, de linkse Guardian zegt het, maar ook Alan Dershowitz in The Algemeiner en David Horovitz in The Times of Israël. En ook de Former Chief Military Rabbi Brig. Gen. Rabbi Avichai Ronsky called the ceasefire with Hamas "a huge failure."

Tsssk, terwijl ze minimaal de controle over de Philadelphi route hadden moeten hernemen in de diplomatieke onderhandelingen, zodat Israel zelf weer de controle heeft over de grenssmokkelovergangen tussen Gaza en Egypte.

Ja. De deal is dat Hamas een overeenkomst met Egypte heeft en Israel ook met Egypte. Dus officieel is er geen rechtstreekse  wapenstilstand. Hamas heeft zijn hoofdkantoor verhuisd van Damascus naar Cairo daarmee Syrië en Iran verlatend en bewegend richting Egypte (wat geografisch ook logischer is). Het soennitische Hamas is weer thuis, nadat Mubarak jarenlang de deur dichthield, zou men kunnen zeggen.

En moslimbroeder Morsi heeft er onmiddellijk van geprofiteerd; hij heeft zich op kunnen werpen als vredesstichter, gematigd en diplomatiek. En terwijl iedereen daaraan dacht, heeft ie thuis de absolute macht gegrepen. De vraag is gerechtvaardigd of dit vooropgezet spel was. Sultan Knish denkt in ieder geval van wel. Wat de werkelijke intenties van Morsi en zijn moslimbroeders zijn werd één dag na het staakt het vuren treffend verwoord door het hoofd van diezelfde MB: Jihad tegen Israël, en zo iemand moet die vrede/wapenstilstand waarborgen?

Ik ben negatief ? Ja.
Zijn er dan helemaal geen lichtpuntjes ? Ja eentje. En Frik had em met vooruitziende blik al gemeld. Hamas is nu de verantwoordelijkheid van Morsi (en daarmee Obama) en zolang die nog niet klaar zijn voor de Jihad tegen Israel, heeft Israel kortstondig de tijd om Iran aan te pakken. Zuid-Israel heeft eventjes rust al valt niet te voorspellen wat er gebeurt bij een aanval op Iran.
In dat kader is ook het interview van Netanyahu bij Sky wel interessant. Het gaat grootdeels over Hezbollah. Zou dat het volgende doel zijn? Assad is al vrij hulpeloos en dan is de weg vrij, maar hij zegt ook dat iemand anders Iran moet aanpakken.

Ik kan alleen maar hopen dat het goed overwint en niet het kwaad. En oorlog voelt altijd slecht, maar soms is het noodzakelijk vrees ik.

The other choice is to destroy Hamas. To accomplish this Israel will need to invade Gaza and remain in place. It will have to kill or imprison thousands of terrorists, send thousands more packing for Sinai, and then spend years patrolling the streets of Gaza and arresting terrorists just as it does today in Judea and Samaria.

Gaza, waarheen

De zesde dag van Pillar of Defence gaat zo in. Ik heb geen glazen bol en ik kan niet in de toekomst kijken. Waar het begon dat weten we, maar waar zal het eindigen? Het begon met 12.000 raketten van Hamas de afgelopen jaren op het zuiden van Israël.

Israël heeft in zijn korte bestaan nog maar weinig vrede gekend:
 
-48- Aangevallen door alle buren ter verwelkoming, deportatie van 800.000 Joden.
-64- oprichting PLO
-67- 6-daagse oorlog met Egypte, Syrië, Jordanië en Irak
-73- Yom Kippoer - met Egypte en Syrië
-78- eerste invasie van Libanon uitgelokt door de PLO
-82- tweede invasie van Libanon tegen PLO en Syrië
-87- eerste intifadah
-91- eerste golfoorlog, Iraakse scuds op Israel, dat niet reageert
-2000- tweede intifadah
-2006- derde Libanonoorlog ditmaal met Hezbollah
-2009- operatie Cast Lead in Gaza
-2012- operatie Pillar of Defence in Gaza

Hiernaast is er de constante rakettenregen vanuit Gaza, de zelfmoordaanslagen en andere terroristische activiteiten.

Is de situatie erg veranderd na de Arabische Lente, die in sommige landen nog in volle gang is; Syrië, Jordanië? Ja zeggen sommigen, want er zijn nu anti-Israelische regeringen aan de macht gekomen, of dreigen te komen.

In Turkije, dat opnieuw zijn Ottomaanse droom koestert en in almaar sneller tempo islamiseert. Hoe bestaat het dat een land met een premier die dergelijke uitspraken doet nog lid is van de Navo en dat de EU nog niet alle gesprekken stopgezet heeft?
In Egypte, dat wel 5 miljard EU geld ontvangt, terwijl daar nu de oprichters/geestelijke vaders van Hamas aan de macht zijn; de moslimbroeders.Waar de president meedoet aan gebeden om alle Joden te vernietigen.

Maar is de situatie wel zo anders? Turkije is nieuw in het rijtje, maar zal nog wel een tijdje aan de leiband van de Navo en de EU lopen. Wel blaffen maar niet bijten. Het rijtje is niet zoveel anders dan in de samenvatting hierboven. Ik wil de situatie niet bagatelliseren. Allerminst. Maar het zijn de aloude vijanden.

Syrië, Irak en Jordanië zijn op de korte termijn geen bedreiging, die hebben hun eigen interne problemen op dit moment. Hezbollah zal wel weer aardig aangesterkt zijn sinds de laatste confrontatie en die hebben al eerder laten weten over 'langere' afstands-raketten te beschikken, die Hamas nu ook bewezen heeft. En dat is dan ook Hamas grootste succes in deze confrontatie, ze hebben laten zien Tel-Aviv en Jeruzalem te kunnen bestoken. Nog niet raken, maar de vraag lijkt eerder niet of- maar wanneer ze dat wel kunnen.

Er lijkt voor Israël maar één ding op te zitten om dat in de toekomst te voorkomen en dat is de totale verwijdering van het Hamas regime. Elsevier verwijst via het 'weg-met-ons-blaadje' Haaretz naar die oplossing:
Israël zal de Gazastrook met een militaire aanval terugsturen naar de Middeleeuwen. Dat heeft de minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Eli Yishai zaterdagavond gezegd. 

En ook The Jerusalem Post ziet dat doel:
The constant firing of thousands of rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip over the past 11 years must finally come to a halt.

De directe buren Syrië en Jordanië zijn op het moment tandeloos al ziet het er naar uit dat dat in de nabije toekomst kan veranderen als de salafisten ook daar de macht overnemen. Hamas en Hezbollah zijn op dit moment het gevaarlijkst. En al is de één sunni en de ander shia, hebben ze een opmerkelijke overeenkomst. Ze zijn beiden proxy's van Iran. En dat is de echte bedreiging van Israël.

Ome Frik van de Amsterdam Post verwacht dat Israël de handen vrij wil aan haar grenzen om in Iran te kunnen ingrijpen:
Als Israël een preventieve aanval zal gaan uitvoeren deze winter of dit voorjaar in Iran om de nucleaire fabrieken naar het stenen tijdperk te helpen dan zitten ze niet te wachten op een achtertuin die hen in de rug zal aanvallen.

Naar verluid heeft Iran afgelopen week zijn ondergrondse faciliteiten voor uraniumverrijking in bedrijf genomen en is hun nucleaire programma daarmee zo goed als niet meer uit te schakelen. Niet als niet de slagkracht van de VS meedoet, en onder de net herkozen Obama valt dat niet te verwachten. En ook niet met Israëlische conventionele wapens. 

-zullen de Egyptische moslimbroeders ingrijpen als hamas verpletterd dreigt te worden
-of zal Iran dan Hezbollah inschakelen en wat voor een hoeveelheid raketten hebben die inmiddels wel niet
-wat gaat Turkije doen

-zal SA nog doorgang verlenen aan Israelische vliegtuigen op weg naar Iran als de door Hamas uitgelokte oorlog met Egypte uitbreekt
-hoe goeie vrindjes zijn Egypte en Iran geworden tijdens de ontmoeting van onafhankelijke staten in Teheran

Wat een bende

Ik kan wel met een handvol links aankomen, er staan er links en rechts inmiddels een hoop geparkeerd.

Maar ik wil het eens anders bekijken. Syrië. De ellende is daar nou al een tijdje gaande. Zelfs het gelijkgeschakelde RTL gaf vandaag weer dat de New York Times bericht had dat Al-Qaeda actief is in Syrië. Dat er jihadisten binnenstromen uit Libië en Jemen, en wellicht ook andere landen. Zelfs de NOS heeft het erover.

Toen in 2009 (of 8 of whatever, hou me ten goede) in Irak geteld werd uit welke stad de meeste gedode terroristen vandaan kwamen; stond Mekka op één en het Libische Bhengazi op twee. Niet zo vreemd dus.

Syrië is wel  vreemd. Allereerst geografisch. Het ligt op een crossroads. Van Azië naar Afrika en omgekeerd en in het hart van de Arabische wereld. En vooral dat laatste maakt het zo interessant. Het ligt tussen de Turken met hun hernieuwde Ottomaanse verlangens en de Perzen. Het ligt op de breuklijn van de soenni- en de shi-ietische islam.

En de breuk tussen die laatste twee manifesteert zich al maar duidelijker. Hamas met ooit zijn hoofdkantoor in Damascus heeft zich bekeerd tot zijn nieuwe broodheer, de moslimbroederschap in Egypte. Soennieten. Saoudi-Arabië met de hoofdstad der soennieten kiest al maar nadrukkelijker de kant van Amerika en Israël (al valt dat laatste moeilijk te verkopen) bang als ze zijn voor een nucleair shi-ietisch Iran.

Hezbollah, is via Syrië afhankelijk van de lijn met Iran, en blijft dan ook in dat kamp. Er is maar weinig nodig voor een hernieuwde burgeroorlog in Libanon. Israël en de VS is er waarschijnlijk heel wat aan gelegen om deze lijn te doorbreken.

Turkije heeft het wat lastiger, de groeicijfers zijn ingestort en de buitenlandse politiek lijkt op alle fronten mislukt. De toenadering tot Iran is tot stilstand gekomen na het mislukte iranium-transporteer-project. Libië is veranderd in een puinzooi waar iedereen de camera's uit heeft gezet en Egypte acht zichzelf de leider van de arabische wereld, terwijl Erdogan dacht met die eer te kunnen  gaan strijken.

Na de dé facto Koerdische onafhankelijkheid, ze sluiten oa. hun eigen olie-contracten, in Noord-Irak, dreigt er nu ook een onafhankelijke Koerdische staat in Noord-Syrië. Die twee samen zouden èn hun eigen olie, èn hun eigen pijpleiding naar de middelandse-zee (noord-syrië) hebben. Ondertussen steunt Assad de PKK, want is Turkije's bemoeienis meer dan zat, en Israël was altijd al op de hand van de Koerden.

Dan hebben we nog de Aleviten, de Christenen en de andere minderheden, die met zekerheid vervolgd zullen gaan worden (en al worden) als de opstandelingen aan de macht komen.

Al met al is Syrië een bijzondere brandhaard. Het is geen simpel conflict, want bijna iedereen uit de hele regio is er bij betrokken.
