Uitlokking?

Een paar maanden terug vielen er wat mortiergranaten op Turkije, in hetzelfde dorp waar nu een bomaanslag was. Turkije schoot een paar keer terug en eiste het recht op zelfverdediging op en vroeg de NAVO om een artikel 5 procedure, een aanval op één is een aanval op allen. Zo gek was de NAVO nou ook weer niet, maar wel staan er inmiddels Duitse en Nederlandse patriots.
De bemanning/vrouwing daarvan wordt overigens helemaal niet vriendelijk behandeld door de Turken. Niet dat die dingen ook maar iets doen tegen mortiergranaten, dus zal Turkije wel iets anders in de nabije agenda hebben staan waar ze wél voor nodig zijn.

En nu was er weer een bomaanslag in Reyhanli. En wederom claimt Turkije het recht om in te grijpen. Obama heeft aangegeven wat zijn 'rode lijn' is, chemische wapens, en of die nou door het regime (die zouden wel gek zijn) ingezet worden of de rebellen (haha, wat een newspeak) Al-Qaeda, dat lijkt Hoessein weinig te deren. Mij doet het denken aan die Poolse aanval op een Duitse grenspost, waarna WWII uitbrak.

NRC reaguurders pikken de propaganda niet

En dat lijkt me goed nieuws voor 'goed volk'. Het betreft de comments onder een fotoreportage van de Servische fotograaf Goran Tomasevic (Reuters) die een maandje meeliep met het FSA, het zogenaamde Syrische vrije leger. Het kan goed zijn dat de reaguurders in deze geen lezers zijn, dat kan ik niet zien.

Er stonden 6 comments op het moment dat ik het bekeek en er was er niet één positief over:

-verder vraag ik mij af of de mensen er in dat land iets mee op zullen schieten als tzt dit zooitje ongeregeld aan de macht is

 -De Westerse reguliere pers doet wanhopige pogingen de anti-Syrische guerrilla in een gunstig daglicht te plaatsten

 -Voor de rest zijn de bijschriften nogal knullig geschreven.

 - Tjonge NRC aub behoud ons van dit propagandamateriaal.

-Van dat vrije Syrische leger valt ook niks te verwachten.

-Laat ons hopen dat het reguliere Syrische leger snel korte metten maakt met dat zooitje ongeschoren fanatiekelingen.

Hoe nu verder met Syria

Ik heb eerder geschreven dat het me niet zou verbazen als het in stukken opgedeeld zou worden. De Libanese oplossing. Een stukje linksboven voor de Alawieten, waar ze bijna 90% van de bevolking uitmaken en 'veilig' achter een bergrug liggen(1). Een safe-haven voor Assad cum suis. Geografisch grofweg proportioneel aan hun aandeel in de bevolking; 10%. De Druzen linksonder een stukje, of niet(2-3%). Rechtsboven zitten Koerden, wel vrienden met hun Iraakse Koerdenburen, maar ook niet persé. Ottoman, eeuh, Attaturk, eeuh, Erdogan is namelijk best wel vriendjes met de Iraakse Koerden, want dat is de perfecte manier om Irak te dwarsbomen en de beweegruimte van de PKK te beperken -en die olie lust ie ook wel-, maar zit bepaald niet te wachten op nòg een semi-onafhankelijk Koerdistan.


Dit kaartje met dank aan Nick Ottens van DDS lijkt me dan ook nog steeds een mogelijke uitkomst.

Al denk ik dat het een veel grotere puinhoop wordt.

Irak valt nauwelijks een coherent land te noemen momenteel en Jordanië heeft genoeg interne problemen met de , ook daar, almaar aanzwellende arabische lente. Gister nog heeft de koning de grondwet aangepast in de vale hoop het 'volk' koest te houden. Israël zal geen enkele behoefte hebben zich in een wespennest te steken.

Dan blijft er maar één regionale macht over en die zit toevallig in de NAVO. We weten al een tijdje dat de Fransen(die zijn van oudsher actief in die regio) actief het verzet steunen en de Amerikanen ook -zonder wapenleveranties, zeggen ze-. Turkije pleit al tijden voor een bufferzone, onder meer omdat ze de vluchtelingenstroom in eigen land niet op kunnen vangen(alsof je het dan bij de buren wel zou kunnen). Maar de gebiedsuitbreiding is een mooie bijkomstigheid. We weten ook dat Erdogan graag een regionale leider wil zijn en hem dat lelijk in de wielen gereden werd door de uitkomst van de Egyptische 'verkiezingen'.

Dat Turkije(2) de afgelopen week bezig is geweest een aanleiding te zoeken om in te grijpen lijkt me duidelijk.
Als ik dat dan combineer met de volgende twee berichtjes, waarin de komst van Amerikaanse kwartiermakers aan zowel de zuid- als noordzijde van Syria wordt aangekondigd

Dan lijkt me dat internationaal ingrijpen niet ver meer weg is.

Of dat goed is? Dat lijkt me niet. Er gebeurt zoiezo weinig goeds in de Arabische wereld. Een tweede Libanon zal geen mensenlevens redden, maar zal wel de bondgenoten Rusland en Iran uitermate pissed off maken.

Misschien moesten we Turkije maar eens tot de orde roepen voordat ze de lucifer in het kruitvat gooien. Turkije is een heel gevaarlijke bondgenoot. En ook al is iemand een bondgenoot. Soms is het beter om de banden door te snijden met een doorgeslagen idioot.
